We are honored to have Amie with us today to share more about the benefits of a clean, organic lifestyle.
Amie, thank you so much for taking the time to answer our questions. If you don’t mind, I’ll begin by asking:
#1 You have a history of health issues. Can you tell us a bit more about what led you to adopt an organic, clean lifestyle?
At the ripe age of 22 my legs started swelling with 40 lbs of fluid every day and the doctors put me on a cocktail of drugs. I suffered for 10 years until I realized that I have more control over my health than I thought. That’s what I chose a different path and discovered functional/integrative medicine and learned how to detox my body from everything like mold, heavy metals, lyme disease, candida and so much more. I learned how important it is to eat organic because if we aren’t eating organic, then we’re eating growth hormones, antibiotics, herbicides and pesticides, which all have to be processed by our liver and lead to the toxicity we deal with on a daily basis via unwanted symptoms like acne, weight gain, exhaustion, rashes, arthritis, etc.
#2 You’ve mentioned that integrative medicine was instrumental in helping you change your life. Can you explain the difference between traditional American medicine and integrative/functional medicine?
Yes of course; integrative/functional medicine gets to the root cause of your health issues, unlike Western medicine, which puts a band-aid approach on symptoms and never addresses the underlying imbalances that are going on inside the body.
#3 As someone who went misdiagnosed for many years, what is the best piece of advice you have for someone suffering with unexplained medical issues?
You have to be your own doctor. Not to self-diagnose but to put the answers together yourself. No one doctor healed me, I had a team and I had to get them all working together and I had to fill in the missing holes to get to the root cause.
#4 You’re a proponent of a soy-free, dairy-free, and gluten-free diet. Can you explain a bit more about how these foods affect the body?
Yes these foods can be very inflammatory to many people and removing them through a 21 day plan (which I outline in my book) shows people how to cut out these foods and add in amazing replacements without feeling deprived. These are 3 of the top foods people see inflammation from in my work with my clients so we remoe these 3 first.
#5 I was amazed by the amount of useful information on your site, including a free health quiz, “10 Day ‘Clean Eating’ Cleanse” and “7 Day Detox Kickstart Plan”. For newcomers to your site, what is the best place to start?
Thank you so much; my newly launched site will go live in a few months and I’ll have a getting started page. But for now, I’d start on the Detox category!
#6 Your site includes so many beautiful recipes. Where do you find inspiration to create these beautiful dishes?
Thank you; I honestly just dedicate a few days a month to playing with food and I create these recipes for my family and they LOVE testing them out. It’s a lot of fun and it allows me to tap into my creative side. Developing recipes is one of my favorite things to do!
#7 If you could only eat one fruit or vegetable the rest of your life, what would it be?
Zucchini! So versatile!
#8 You recommend removing harmful ingredients from one’s beauty regimen. Can you explain why this important?
Because our skin is our biggest organ so anything we put on our skin gets absorbed into our bloodstream and then our liver has to filter it out. So, we want to lessen the body burden that we put on our liver on a daily basis!
#9 Your site offers great natural beauty tips, including recipes and product information. Do you have a favorite natural beauty product?
Yes I love NOW Foods line of essential oils, toothpaste and body care. Their products are amazing and so clean!
#10 I’m sure our readers are excited to purchase your books and utilize your services. Are you currently offering any promotions or discount codes?
The book is discounted on Amazon.com; other than that my publisher sets the rates. Amie, thank you for being so generous with your time. You gave us some great information about the healing power of a clean lifestyle!
